Welcome to Cozumel! Whether this is your first time visiting the “Island of Swallows” or you are a returning veteran of our reefs, you have arrived at one of the world’s premier underwater destinations.
Home to the clearest water in the Caribbean and the famous Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (the second largest reef system on Earth), Cozumel offers a diving experience unlike anywhere else. From towering coral walls to high-speed drift dives, this is the adventure of a lifetime.
Choosing the Right Cozumel Dive Operator
With over 100 dive shops on the island, the choice can be overwhelming. However, not every diver operator offers the same experience.
At Alex Adventures, we separate ourselves from the “cattle boats” through our commitment to quality, safety, and privacy. While large operators stack 20+ divers onto a slow boat, we specialize in:
- Fast Boats: We get you to the reef before the crowds arrive.
- Small Groups: A more intimate experience with the marine life.
- Valet Service: We handle your gear setup, swaps, and cleaning. You just dive.
- Spots Less Frequented: We love taking experienced divers to the “wild side” or hidden sections of the reef that standard tours skip.
Protecting Our National Treasure
The Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park is a federally protected treasure. As a responsible Cozumel dive operator, we strictly adhere to park regulations to ensure these reefs remain vibrant for generations to come.
Current Marine Park Rules for Divers:
To protect the coral environment, please remember:
- No Gloves or Knives: These are prohibited within the Marine Park to discourage touching the reef.
- Reef Safe Sunscreen Only: Please apply biodegradable sunscreen at least 30 minutes before entering the water, or better yet, wear a UV rash guard.
- Buoyancy Control: Maintaining good buoyancy is the best way to protect the coral. If you need a refresher, just ask our instructors!
When is the Best Time to Dive Cozumel?
Cozumel is a year-round destination, but each season offers something unique:
- Winter (Dec – March): This is Eagle Ray season! The water is slightly cooler (78°F), but the visibility is spectacular.
- Summer (May – Sept): The water warms up (85°F), making it perfect for wetsuit-free diving. The seas are generally calmer, allowing us to access remote northern sites.
We don’t “nickel and dime” you. Our goal is simple: your safety and the most memorable underwater experience of your life. When you arrange your tours with Alex Adventures, you are supporting a local business that treats you like family, not just a ticket number.
